University of South Alabama Graduation & Commencement FAQs

Congratulations, Class of 2025!

Q: I walked across the stage at Commencement. Does that mean I have graduated?

A: Participating in the commencement ceremony does not mean you have officially graduated. The degree conferral process starts the week after the ceremony and may take up to seven (7) business days to finish. Once we confirm that all the degree requirements have been met, your degree will be officially conferred. If you have not met all the requirements for your degree, we recommend you contact your academic advisor to learn what requirements still need to be completed and when to reapply for graduation. You can find your assigned advisor within PAWS or Navigate South.

Q: When will I receive my diploma?

A: Spring 2025 diplomas will be issued by Wednesday, May 21. Both digital and paper diplomas are managed through Parchment. Digital diplomas will be to students' JagMail accounts by Wednesday, May 21. Paper diplomas will be printed and mailed from the Parchment printing facility in Ohio. Domestic diplomas are shipped via USPS, while international diplomas are sent via FedEx. It may take up to four weeks for students to receive their paper diplomas. For tracking information, students can contact the graduation area at graduation@southalabama.edu. Additional information about diplomas is available on our website: Commencement Information for Graduating Students.

Q: When will I receive my photos?

A: GradImages is the official commencement photographer for the University of South Alabama. Graduates photographed during the commencement ceremony will receive their proofs approximately 48 hours after the ceremony. Customer service questions may be directed to (800) 261-2576 or ecc.giservice@gradimages.net.

Q: Why are there two dates for commencement and graduation?

A: The two dates serve different purposes. Commencement is the day(s) students walk across the stage and receive their diploma covers, allowing family and friends to celebrate the achievement. This ceremony is a significant milestone and a time for festivities. In contrast, the graduation date is the official date recorded on transcripts and diplomas, coinciding with the end of the term in which the degree is completed. This date is used for official records and documentation.

Q: Can I view the Commencement program online?
A: Yes, the Spring 2025 Commencement program and programs for prior ceremonies are on the Commencement program website.
