Letters of Recommendation/Evaluation - For Students

For AMCAS Allopathic Programs:

  1. Provide all of your Letter Writers with the Letter Writer Instructions and deadlines.
  2. Print the Letter Request PDF Form (found on the Main Menu of the application within the Letters of Evaluation section).
  3. Know your Letter ID (a unique 7-digit number assigned to each letter entry on your AMCAS application.)
    • Each letter writer should be provided the Letter ID number to properly match their letters.
  4. Do not delay submitting your application because you are waiting on your letters.  These will not be uploaded until after you submit.
  5. Stay in contact with letter writers. It is your responsibility to keep track of your letters and ensure your letter writers are aware of deadlines.
    • Applications and interviews invitations will not be sent until LoRs are received.
  6. You can review the status of your letters in the "Letters of Evaluation" or Medical School Summary screen of your AMCAS application.
  7. Download and email/provide the Letter Writer Instructions pdf to each of your letter writers. If you did not give your letter writers a copy of your resume when you asked if they would writer a recommendation letter include it now.

Review the AAMC website - Section 6 of the AMCAS for more details.

Students/Letter Writers can use the AMCAS Letter Service which allows all participating medical schools to receive letters of recommendation/evaluation electronically and enables letter writers to send all letters to the AMCAS program.
