Brittany Roybal (Class of 2009)

Brittany RoybalI currently serve as the Director of Museum Education and Collections Manager at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, where I oversee the internship program and care of the museum’s collection. In addition to my museum work, I teach English as a Second Language one evening each week to refugees at a local non-profit, an experience that allows me to connect with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

My path to a career in museums and education began at the University of South Alabama. As an undergraduate Anthropology major, I worked at the Center for Archaeological Studies, interned at the History Museum of Mobile, and volunteered on campus as a conversational partner to international students. These formative experiences shaped my interdisciplinary approach to museum education and cultural engagement.

Through networking during my internship, I joined Battleship Memorial Park in the summer of 2009 as a Museum Technician. Since then, I’ve advanced exhibit development, collections care, and community outreach, and established the museum’s internship program to provide students with practical, hands-on experience in museum operations.

The Anthropology program at the University of South Alabama equipped me with the ability to view situations from multiple perspectives and think more mindfully about complex issues.
